how we *don't* do things in Grown-Up Gap Year 💜

Pre-S: Not interested in hearing more about my Grown-Up Gap Year program? Click here and I'll skip the launch emails and see you back for regular programming soon.

Hey Reader,

By now you know that the doors to Grown-Up Gap Year: Your Strategic Life (Re)Design are closing tomorrow!

And maybe you're considering joining but also wondering if you could just DIY this with a couple of books, a new planner, and some podcasts.

Here's what I want you to know:

If going it alone was easy, you would have done it by now. And you wouldn’t be reading this in search of a solution. (I say this knowing how highly capable you are. Your go-getter roots run so deep it's easy to forget you DON'T have to figure everything out on your own.)

Grown-Up Gap Year acknowledges this work isn’t easy (that's why there are so many touchpoints built into the experience) and is shaped accordingly.

With a book, planner, or podcast, there’s no-one to reach out to if you get stuck...

No-one to help you workshop ideas to apply to your unique context…

And no-one to offer ongoing support and accountability for remembering to do (or not do) the thing...

And all that missing support, accountability, and guidance, Sweets, leaves you less likely to follow through and less likely to keep going when life gets busy or old habits reemerge. It also means that the changes you're after are far less likely to stick around.

The other thing I need to mention is that there's a lot of less-than-effective advice out there:

Touting that Their Way is the Right Way.

Shaming you for what you aren't doing without considering what you actually want or what your capacity is.

Offering formulas and “it's foolproof," only to leave you feeling like, well, a fool when it doesn't work for you. Especially when you've given it everything you've got.

So I want to let you know how‌ we don't do things in Grown-Up Gap Year:

We don’t shame.
We don’t force you to overcommit or live beyond your capacity.
We don’t tell you to screw up your courage and just do it already.

We don’t hand out formulas.
We don’t expect perfection.
We don’t even acknowledge perfection as real.

We don't demand more grit, discipline, or a drill sergeant's devotion to “fixing” your life.

We don't believe changing your life should be a punishment.

We don’t turn seeking joy into one more box to check on the to-do list.

And we don’t expect your journey to look like anyone else's; instead, we make space for you to walk away with what YOU need.

Instead, here's how things go within the program:

We welcome fear and doubt into the room.

We give way more credence to the answer to “and how do you feel?” than “so what did you get done?”

We acknowledge that feeling good is often more uncomfortable than staying still and allow for that discomfort as it shows up along the way.

We're talking about a Gap Year. A year-long strategic life redesign. A year of living differently. Where you get to practice devotion to your life rather than your comfort.

Grown-Up Gap Year recognizes your humanity and holds uncertainty, wobbles, and resistance in high regard.

It’s a fresh experience for a different kind of bravery for a life that feels like home.

Unapologetic integrity. Radical self-belief. A life unencumbered from the Productivity Above All mindset. And the shift that could never come from a uniformed, cookie cutter approach.

(Because you, friend, aren’t a cookie.)

I want you to have your own revelation. Within and through the life you’re living now.

If you’ve read this far, here's your next step (or you can submit an application here!). I suspect you're ready, and I can’t wait to get to know you. 💜💜💜

PS. Doors close tomorrow! (just sayin')

PPS. If you're on the fence, you can also submit an application and I'll get back to you tomorrow!

PPPS. Any q's? Just hit reply!
